So just what is Fibromyalgia?

When people are diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, their first question is often What is Fibromyalgia? Since it has a long, confusing, unpronounceable name and it is difficult to diagnose, not many people have heard of it. This is why so many people try to go about their daily routine suffering from Fibromyalgia, and not even know they have it.

Well, what is Fibromyalgia? Fibromyalgia is a disorder that is identified by chronic pain all over the body, fatigue, and experiencing tender points on the body. These tender points will happen in specific areas - there are 18 areas total on the body - and they are in much localized points. It is not a general ache and pain in one of the tender points, but a definite, clear pain, particularly in areas like the neck, spine, shoulders, hips and small of the back. Patients describe this pain as occurring clearly in such spots and being tender to the touch and sore when they move. Those spots, as well as joints on the body can become very still in the mornings and take all day to loosen up. The joints and tender points can experience inflammation, and will be tender to the touch.

Fibromyalgia is a condition that requires a broad approach when it is being treated. Anti-depressant medications, physical therapy and exercise have all shown to help Fibromyalgia.
